Book Club Discussions – If Pride and Prejudice were a Taylor Swift Song
Book Club Discussions – If Pride and Prejudice were a Taylor Swift Song

Our book club discussions are back.  This time we’ve posed Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen as Taylor Swift.  I mean, her games with Mr. Darcy are pretty Taylor Swift-ish.  C’mon Taylor – you are the common denominator in all of your breakup songs.  So c’mon, add some booze to your tea and dig into this book club discussion question.

I don't like your little games
Don't like your tilted stage
You played you didn’t want to dance with me
You made me look a fool, no, I don't like you
I don't like your Miss Bingley
I came running in the rain
She’s too good for a little mud
It isn't cool, no, I don't like her (oh)

But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Why do you insist on flirting with me all the time?
I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined
Wickham told me once, he told me twice, oh!

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me—
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do

I don't like your inheritance stealing
They once belonged to Wickham
So Charlotte says I’m an old maid
I should match for financial strength
The world moves on, another day, another wedding, wedding
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is fun
And then the world moves on, but then you surprisingly propose
You say you didn’t steal, instead George tried to steal your sister

But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
You keep pretending you’re not even slightly interested
I've got a list of names and yours isn’t even on it
I refuse you once, I refuse you twice, oh!

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me—
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do

I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
This is getting problematic for everyone, including me
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
This is getting problematic for everyone, including me

Finally, you confess to me
You’ve liked me since the beginning
You’re feelings haven’t changed since Spring
Oh I’ve been a fool, yes I like you

But I got married, I got wealthy in the nick of time
Happily ever after and never to be an old maid
I've got a list of names for our kids and yours is in red, underlined
So you had to tell me once, tell me twice, oh!

"I'm sorry, the old Elizabeth can't come to the phone right now
"Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead!" (Oh)

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me—
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me—
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
